Winter evening essay

Clouds were covering up the night skies. Snow had falling down for days. Covering up everything in a thick layer of snow. This night was no different from any other. I had been sitting at the kitchen table, and stared out the window for hours. I wish the snow will just stop falling, I thought to myself wishful.

T.S Eliot’s poem, “The winter evening settles down” is a short, simple to read poem with several different examples of imagery. Eliot uses descriptive words, for instance, “withered leaves”, “broken blinds”, and “lonely cab-horse” (lines 7-10). He paints an extremely bleak image of a town that seems to be deserted of people.

All of a sudden, the sky was overcast with clouds. Clouds began to thunder and lightning began to flash. It began to rain and hail. The ground was soon white with hail-stones. The weather became intensely cold. All out-door activities were suspended. I sat by the fireplace and waited for the rain to cease.
